Forest conservation and development in the Chiquitano Dry Forest
Tropical dry forests account for about half of the world’s tropical forests and are the ecosystems that show the greatest deterioration as a consequence of land use change. They are complex, fragile and still poorly understood ecosystems in terms of their biodiversity and ecological functioning. In general, it is estimated that just over 1 million km2 of tropical dry forests remain on the planet and that more than half (54%) are located in South America.
